How to transfer PF to a new employer online

When you change jobs your UAN stays the same, but the money in your old member ID does not always move by itself. Transferring keeps your service continuous, which matters for tax and for your pension.

Is it automatic?

Often, yes — when your UAN is Aadhaar-linked, KYC is complete and your new employer adds you under the same UAN. Check the passbook of your new member ID a couple of months after joining. If the old balance has not appeared, file a transfer claim.

Steps to transfer

  1. 1Log in to the EPFO member portal and check that your personal details and KYC are complete.
  2. 2Open Online Services and choose One Member – One EPF Account (Transfer Request).
  3. 3Select your previous member ID and choose whether the previous or current employer attests the claim.
  4. 4Confirm with the OTP and submit.
  5. 5Track the transfer under Track Claim Status until it shows settled in both offices.

Transfer or withdraw?

If you are working again, transfer. Withdrawing breaks your service, may attract tax if total service is under five years, and loses years of compounding on that money.

Frequently asked

How long does a PF transfer take?
Usually a few weeks, because both the old and new PF offices process it.
I have three old PF accounts. Can they all be moved?
Yes — link each old member ID to your UAN and file a transfer for each, or ask for help consolidating them.
Is there a fee for PF transfer?
EPFO does not charge for any claim, and every step below can be done by you on the EPFO member portal or the UMANG app. If a claim keeps getting rejected or you would rather not spend the time, FileSaathi can do it for a fixed fee — never a percentage of your PF.
